#ChildProtectionWeek: The impact of violence on children
4 Jun 2019
My name is Ndingedwa and I am in prison serving a 19 year sentence for stock theft, housebreaking, assault and murder. How exactly I became violent, I am not sure. One thing I do remember is that my father used to be very violent towards my mother. My father drank so much and he was argumentative and aggressive when he was drunk. He fought with my mother and with other people. If other people wanted to stop him fighting with my mother, then he would fight with them too.

Save the Children dares South Africa to raise a hand against corporal punishment
2 Jun 2019
Save the Children South Africa (SCSA) calls on all sectors of society including government and the private sector to say no to corporal punishment in the home. We must do everything to prevent violence against children.
According to the Children’s Institute at the University of Cape Town, 75% of physical child abuse occurs in the context of physical punishment and 45% of child homicides happen in the context of child abuse and neglect with such deaths mainly occurring in the under-five age group either in the home or by someone known to the child. This is unacceptable and needs to change.

But what about the views of those who cannot vote, because they are still too young to do so?

A partnership that works for the children
8 Apr 2019
“I am overwhelmed by such beautiful energies of the children and the work that is being done in giving these kids an opportunity to grow. I have been impressed by how we are putting children at the centre of these activities and the parents. We are seeing the good results of how the funds are being used,” said Bvlgari’s Mauro Di Roberto during a recent visit to Limpopo.
